Named by his contemporaries, ‘The Greatest Ragtime Vocalist’, William Thomas Murray was born Philadelphia, on May 25th.1877.  In relation to his recording career, the year of his birth was significant, as he later recalled (in relation to the phonograph.) “It wasn’t invented until I was born.” His career and tremendous recording 'output 'is well-documented within these pages. A 'must' for vintage record collectors and students of American popular music history. An in-depth coverage of the output of early recording companies shows that America was a vibrant musical society and how popular music was indeed a panacea in those difficult days for most Americans, that is, those that could afford a phonograph.
